I Can't Upload Any Media (6 posts)

Hello! I've been using WordPress for months without problem. All of the sudden today when I tried posting I went to "Add Image," and that worked, but when I went to from computer "choose files to upload," nothing happened, no connection to my computer. Just nothing.
I can't upload any images or media which for me means I can't post as images are crucial to my site.
If this helps, I am a MAC user. I am hosted by Dreamhost. I have tried this from both my Firefox and Safari web browsers and I have completely shut down my computer and restarted it and tried it again from both web browsers. I've been at this for over 2 hours.
I don't know what to do and I can't get a hold of my tech guy. If you can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm very frustrated!
    Thank you,

You upgraded to Flash 10 recently, didn't you?

Flash 10 breaks the uploader. It also breaks half the internet. Sorry, but Adobe screwed up and won't admit it, so it's just plain broken.

WordPress 2.7 will have a workaround/patch for this mistake on Adobe's part. Until then, use the Browser Uploader instead. It works.

With any luck, WordPress 2.8 will get rid of Flash altogether, as Adobe has proven it to be unreliable for real-world usage.

    Thank you!
I did upload Flash 10 this weekend. This really pisses me off!
Where do I find the Browser Uploader?
I'm totally messed up if I can't upload images from my computer.
    I really appreciate your help!!

The Browser Uploader is built in. Look closer at the screen that shows the upload button. The "Use the Browser Uploader instead" words are a link. Click on it.

If you don't see those words, then upgrade to WordPress 2.6.3 so that you do see them.

I looked on Adobe's website as I wanted to let them know how displeased I am. I didn't find a way to reply but I did see where you can uninstall "Flash." Would that help me? Or is my "uploader" now permanently broken?
Am trying to confer with my tech guy as I don't see "Use the Browser Uploader instead" anywhere on the write post page or in the add image box. Seeing whether I've missed something?
By upgrading to WordPress 2.6.3 will I lose anything I've written or posted thus far? I'm assuming my host Dreamhost has backed up my site, but I have not and would hate to lose months of hard work.
    Thank you for your help.

There is a workaround in WordPress 2.7 which will come out later this month. When you upgrade to that, the flash uploader will work again. Patience.

Upgrading to 2.6.3 will not lose any data. You do need to back up your blog yourself, of course, but it will be fine, generally. Do not trust your host to keep backups for you.
