(I’m pretty sure it’s the version above.. If not, the one before. (I can’t get in to check!))

HI THERE! -after giggling at my title I can now get serious!!
At present, the frontend and backend of my site comes up with HPPT 500 error, which I am sure has occured due to some playing about I was doing with codes in my backend..
What happenned was, I have a plugin installed called Jigoshop, but the page layout does not conform with the rest of my site. So, I was looking at code patterns in the main stylesheet of the website and found a particular bit of coding i thought might work.. So I copied this, and then pasted it into the Jigoshop coding. As soon as I clicked Update, the screen went white with the HTTP 500 message.
It has been confirmed by my host, that it is due to something in WordPress, not his server being down, so I am DESPERATE to get into the backend so I can, if nothing else, deactivate the Jigoshop.. My website has been offline for days now, and I am trying desperately to get back in…
I need someone from WordPress itself I am guessing, who can go in from their server end on my behalf to my site, and sort this mess out.. If it’s not even loading up the login page for me (HTTP 500…) then this is all I know as an alternative -Can you help???
    Many thanks for your time…
    Mrs T

You need to go in via FTP, SSH or some file manager program and delete the coding you added. Where did you add this too, anyway? The plugin itself?

Hi Ipstenu! Thanks for your reply.

The FTP is via a friend who is hosting our site -we are on his server and I understand this is the FTP?- He looked into it and the message I got back was that he needed to contact WordPress… Yes -to delete the coding is what I am desperate to do. If I was able to do it from my computer here and now, I’d love to know how… but I assume I can’t if I can’t even get to the login page of the backend..?
Yes, I added the coding to the plugin itself. I copied a segment from the main website stylesheet, went to the editing part of the Jigoshop plugin, and then pasted it where I thought it might make a difference to the page layout. This is so frustrating, as I feel I can’t keep pestering the chap who’s server we are on -I need to try and do what I can to sort this out.. If I can’t get in from my computer, I am concluding the only person who can, is someone at the software end of WordPress.org. WOuld you agree?

If you are hosting an installation of WordPress on your friends server, no, you don’t need to contact WordPress. All you need to do is what Ipstenu said, and delete the code you edited. WordPress support would tell you the same thing 😉

(There is no WordPress ‘support’ by the way. Just goofy volunteers like me and Dan.)

Your friend doesn’t know much about WordPress. The answer is this: the files on your SERVER need to be fixed. As you cannot get in via WordPress, you must access them via FTP or SSH. Show this post to your friend, hopefully he’s enough of a web admin to understand what we’re saying about this.

Thanks Danhgilmore, but Ipstenu has understood me correctly. I will do as you say Ipstenu -Bless you, hopefully I won’t need to come back! 😛
