    I am trying to put a banner between my header and first post.

    Here's the code:

    <p align=”center”><a
    http://daiyaan.seannal.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=MMBLOG><img
    src=http://www.musclemastered.com/affiliates/mgtbanner2.gif width=”468”
    height=”60”></p>

    I am using the theme Feather 1.0 but i tried with the default theme and it wouldn't work either.

    I placed the code in the Main Index Template file below:

    <?php get_header(); ?>

    so it looks like this:

    <?php get_header(); ?>
    <p align=”center”><a
    http://daiyaan.seannal.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=MMBLOG><img
    src=http://www.musclemastered.com/affiliates/mgtbanner2.gif width=”468”
    height=”60”></p>
    <div id="content" class="narrowcolumn">

    <?php if (have_posts()) : ?>

    Please help me.

    it looks like you forgot to close the <a> and <img> tag. you also need a set of quotes around the address of the image.
