when i try to enter the webpage i get the error message
"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF, expecting T_FUNCTION in /home/kitcross/public_html/wp-content/themes/hum/functions.php on line 9"

I would just go into the function.php and change the error... however I can't access the webpage to change anything!

Via FTP or control panel deactivate the themes folder by renaming it (add -old) so that your site will open and you may be able to login.

Thank you for your help, however I tried to do that but can't find a themes folder. I looked in hostgator control panel and I just can't find anything there...

Have you looked at /public_html/wp-content/themes ?

I just had this problem yesterday! I have the solution. On your webhost you can access the file manager through the control panel. You have to activate it to show hidden folders first in the settings on the control panel before entering file manager. Once you can see the hidden files, go find the .php that you messed up and fix it.

Thank you so much, I will try that when I get back home and hope that it will work!
I saw the activating part but wasn't sure if I should mess with that!

just look for the part that shows hidden files, and i know it is not inside file manager, you have to turn hidden files on before entering file manager. Its some setting somewhere
