• But I have asked 4 questions here including this most recent one about conditions and have even taken the time to try to answer other people’s questions too. I have received NO responses to any question I have posted.

If we are not suppose to *bump* or double post, how in the world do you get help on here? Is it a lottery? Luck of the draw? Who has the cutest avatar? What?

Should I just accept this as one of the drawbacks of using an open source solution?

As usual, thanks in advance to anyone who trips through this posts and deems it worthy of a response.

  • Well yes, somebody has to happen to be on the forum who can answer your question. The change is bigger with easier questions (such as this one). When I see a question I don’t know the answer to, I don’t answer. So indeed, a certain amount of ‘luck’ is needed.

…I’m finding it better to make my “own” luck. I discovered a solution on my own.

Same here what the “luck” concerns. What bothers me is that certain sections have over 4000 pages of questions and there is no search to at least find a question posted by someone about the same topic. This probably causes multiple same or similar posts by different people a few pages apart on the forum.

I’m right there with you Ambergris75. I posted a plugin specific question two weeks ago and haven’t had any response, now I’m wondering what to do next? I would figure the plugin owner would at the very least be looking, but I guess not.

So what do people think? If you’re not supposed to bump or double post, how in world do you solve a problem that you can’t figure out yourself?

For a plugin, double check their plugin page and see if there’s another way to contact them. Sometimes they link their websites and you can ask them for help.

Otherwise… Google, mostly. Try changing up your search parameters. It’s a pain, and we’ve all been there.

The shortcomings of the forum are understood and hopefully will be addressed in the upcoming site revamp, but for now if you want to search through topics here you can use a google site search.

Yes it is very important to search first before asking questions as if regular users see something asked that was asked 10 times before they likely will neither answer, nor tell you to use the search.

I needed a lot of help on this forum when starting my blog yearontheroad.wordpress.com and due to the high sexual content I wanted to know a lot about privacy etc. to avoid male stalkers and the like 🙂

In the end I found every question I wanted to ask had been asked at least once on here so I never had to post. Its a really helpful forum.

I know how you feel Ambergris75! I’ve found the #wordpress IRC channel to be a MUCH quicker way of getting help (for the most part).
