If you don't have your own backups (see WordPress Backups) then talk to your host.

so i checked out the link, and only says i should back up my files, they are already gone, so, does that mean there is no way to get them back?

If you didn't backkup before, then you will have to talk to your host.

Once you get your site running again, then learn how to do your own backups with WordPress Backups that explains backing up your files and your database.

Hostgator do have backups, but last I heard was that they charged to retrieve them.

I can only guess they might be able to help. But please call them.

If you deleted only the wordpress files in your server and your database is intact, you probably will be able to retrieve your data. Via cPanel, enter phpMyAdmin and check if your database is still there.

If it is, put the correct information (name, user and password) in wp-config.php in your wordpress root and try to link it back to the database.

But doesn't a Fantastico delete get rid of everything, including the database?

    Does it? I don't know... Well, I guess it's worth a try...

    Hi Renato,
I have similar problem, I accidently deleted my wordpress files, but database is intact. So I copied the installation files and changed the config. But im simply getting a blank page not 404. It happens for all my site's links.

Is this due to the fact my old theme was deleted ?

Is their any way to reset themes to default wordpress theme?

    Thanks in Advance
    Dinesh.

A blank screen could mean you didn't get a complete and intact set of WordPress files uploaded to your host. I'd consider downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page, then use something like 7-Zip to extract the files. Then reupload the files to your host. Review Uploading WordPress to a remote host and make sure you are using ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.

If you have an .htaccess file, that too could be causing the problem--rename that if necessary.

If your theme no longer exists in the wp-content/themes folder, WordPress will automatically use the Default theme.

    Thanks Michael.

I uploaded the entire 2.8.4 zip and extracted it in the directory and then moved the contents of wordpress folder.

Will this happen if I have a older database version (ie tables as per a older wordpress version) ?

Please let me know what was the last wordpress version we had table changes..

    Thanks Again.

If you had an old database, then WordPress would try to do an upgrade if you installed newer files.

See Database Description. 2.8 did make database changes.
