How do I create a hyperlink to a specific bookmark in a page or a post?

I send a news letter using an e-mail marketing service. In my news letter I like to send the reader to a specific point on a WP page or a WP post at my WP CMS.

Is this possible? Can you tell me how do this?

  2. Hi there,

I showed someone how to do this here:

In your case you'd just need to make the links absolute since you're embedding them in an outside source (the newsletter). So:

    <a href="http://www.yoursite.com/yourpage/#example">Go to example</a>

Thank you very much for your reply.

I hope you can be extra generous with me since I am too technical. I tried what you suggested but I failed.

Here is an example of what I need. From my news letter I want to hyper link a specific the text “What do you think?” so by click on it the reader can go to the “What do you think?” on my post http://www.integrity-plus.com/wp/2011/09/08/jar-of-life/

    Can you please tell me:

    1. What is the exact HTML code that I need to paste on that page at the end of the <h2>What do you think?</h2>.
2.What is the URL that I need to insert so my news letter hyper link will go to that “What do you think?” point on the page http://www.integrity-plus.com/wp/2011/09/08/jar-of-life/

In the page or post, switch to html view and add an id to the header, so find:
    <h2>What do you think?</h2>
    Then add the ID:
    <h2 id="what-do-you-think">What do you think?</h2>

Save the post and then your link will be.

    Hope this is clearer.

    Thanks David,
I hope I do not sound very stupid. It did not work, May be I do not understand what is a heeding and what is an ID

Here is what I did in a variety of ways using the copy and paste from the e-mail i got and into the HTML view.

At the top of the page placed:
    <h2>What do you think?</h2>

Then after my OREGINAL “what do you think” text I placed:
    <h2 id="what-do-you-think">What do you think?</h2>

After I update the post I get extra text on the page that I do not want.

Thank for trying to help me. Please do not give up.

Read again: switch to html view and add an id

Heeder should have read h2 tag <h2>

On the editor there are two options [Visual][HTML], select html
This is a html view of a simple post!

When you switch back to visual editor view!

    Hi Dave:

Thank you for being so patient with me

I created a new post to teat and show you what I did. It is at
    http://www.integrity-plus.com/wp/2011/09/10/test/

My goal is to hyperlink from a newsletter to the text header "What do you think?"

As you instructed, using the html view I added the header and ID you gave me:

    HEADER:
    <h2>What do you think?</h2>

    Then Added ID:
    <h2 id="what-do-you-think">What do you think?</h2>

Then I tried to link using the URL as you suggested
    http://www.integrity-plus.com/wp/2011/09/10/test/#what-do-you-think

    RESULTS:

    1) The html header and ID I added is visible in the post view

    2) The hyperlink directed me to the top of post page not to the point I was expecting which is near the bottom. The header "What do you think?"

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks agin.

You are not switching from Visual to HTML, have a look at this video I created to show you it working.
