   I am trying to use the hybrid news theme. here is the demo link;
   hybrid news demo theme.
   However, here are my concerns.
   1. How did they get the banner before contents working?
   2. How can I insert the video at the sidebar?

   You can download a plugin like smart-youtube, install it and then use the widgets page to move it into the primary area.

   You should read the readme.html page in the /hybrid-news theme's directory. The answers to your question are in there regarding setting up the front-page.php.
