Huge Increase in Memory, no increase in traffic (3 posts)

Something happened to this website on January 12th. Backstory - I'm a reader of this website, not the owner. On January 12th, the theme seemed to reset from whatever he was using to twentyeleven. Apparently this was not an intentional change, and he posted a call on the website asking for help. I responded, and got him set up with a theme more to his liking on the 18th .

    Memory/CPU Usage, Traffic

While the site looks good, it has been running poorly since the 12th. WP Super Cache is now up and running (though it was off, along with all other plugins when I got to the site), but both memory and CPU usage are much higher than they were before the incident on the 12th.

    Two questions:
    1) Can anyone think of what could have caused this (theme reset, plugin deactivation, additional memory usage, etc...) to happen in the first place?
    2) Does anyone have suggestions on how to reduce the memory usage to a more manageable level?

This is on a DreamHost VPS, for what it's worth.

    Thank you

The website is currently on 3.3.1, which came out on the 3rd. I don't know when they upgraded from 3.3, but could such an upgrade even cause these symptoms?

It has been a few days of running with WP Super Cache and the Coraline theme, and there has been virtually no change in the Memory usage. This is an increase of about 150MB on average, and seems really significant. I'm at a total loss.
