  • Hi everyone,

Over the past few days I’ve noticed some issues with my self-hosted WordPress installation and I cannot work out how to solve it and from the length of time it is taking my host to respond to my ticket based on these sudden issues I don’t think they can see a problem.

My website to begin in http://www.espyrock.com

The last time I used the website properly was the 11th October before coming back a week later on the 18th to resume some work after taking a week off for my birthday and my normal job and it was then I experienced the issues. On the 11th October everything was perfect and one week with no use has seemingly destroyed the setup.

I went onto the dashboard on the 18th to find that everything was running slowly. I thought possibly at the time I was experiencing high traffic but my stats showed normal traffic, nothing which should have resulted in such a slow speed. It took around 10 minutes to approve two pending posts sitting before I went to update a plugin which I was alerted to. When trying to update the plugin I received errors so I just left it. I then attempted later on to install this new Jetpack plugin as I had previously put off doing so but it was then I received the timeout error “An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.”

I looked throughout the forums and found that people suggest to change the timeout within the WordPress core files to “60” which I did but it has not solved that issue.

On the main dashboard I now see the following error “RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: name lookup timed out.”

Throughout my search I found people suggesting to others to install a plugin titled “Core Control” and to disable cURL. This made absolutely no difference.

I have disabled all of my plugins and WordPress still runs terribly slow from the frontend of the website to the full admin panel, WordPress has become unusable.

Another forum user experienced the same issues as I have and recently too – http://wordpress.org/support/topic/rss-error-wp-http-error-name-lookup-timed-outi-and-other-connection-problems. He was able to sort his issues by restarting Apache and MySQL. I have done both of these and also rebooted my entire VPS but nothing will resolve the issues.

I have also tried going back to the original default theme, the errors still persist.

Can anyone suggest anything I may have not tried or simply have not discovered?

    Thank you very much.

I forgot to add here that I have also reset the plugin folder also from previous suggestions on the forum.

I have now downgraded WordPress but still the problems exist. If anyone can suggest anything please do, I’m at the point I’ll try anything to get this to work as I need the website up and running ASAP.
