[resolved] HTML in theme is disappearing (5 posts)

    Hello everyone,

I planned on updating a small bit of HTML in one of our themes (just replacing an image on the sidebar), and when I clicked on "Update File", all of the text in the theme disappeared. Thankfully I saved the text, but no matter how many times I tried to paste it back into the text box, it would disappear when updated. And of course, now the sidebar on our site is missing.

    The website is http://www.toughpigs.com/

Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. When you say text box, do you mean a widget or are you updating the theme file using the editor under Appearance > Editor?

If you are updating the theme using the editor, try downloading the theme via FTP instead, make your changes and then re-upload the file. The file editor is sometimes a bit tricky on some hosts.

I mean the in-Wordpress editor (Appearance > Editor). I can try the FTP option, but it still worries me that I can lose the HTML markup of any of my themes so easily.

I've also done this in the past with no snafus like this, so I'd be hesitant to blame our host.

That's not WordPress removing your text. Best guess, there was a server hiccup at the moment you saved. Or the text you entered fell foul of the server's security configuration.

I hope you're right, but I tried again this morning and it still didn't save the new text.

I'll reach out to my server and see if they know anything.

And again: Thank you everyone for all your help!
