Htlml Tables

Hi

I am trying to copy my homepage here http://www.arttus.co.uk
its not a static front page and uses widgets to line up the text, however I would like to have a staic front page and then build a blog page deeper in the site and use the widgets for the blog etc..

I can sort the slide show out easily with meteor slides on my new home template, but I can’t make the text line up the same as it does currentley. I have tried using tables but each time I copy the text in to them the columns resize according to the text, I don’t want to change the text but I just want the tables to look equal, any help would be greatly appreciated.
