I just installed WP after using MT for a while. I got it up and running just fine and imported all my old MT posts. However, I'm having problems getting the permalinks to function. I set the link up in the admin section, generated the mod_rewrite rules, created a file in my web root called .htaccess, and pasted those rules in. I've verified (using phpinfo) that my server has mod_rewrite installed. But, when I try to access the permalinks, I get a 404. Is there something else I need to be doing?

The .htaccess file may have unwanted whitespace, tabs and so on, so please try and open it, and remove the unwanted white spaces.

Posted 8 years ago #Also, each rule has to occupy exactly one line. So if your text editor wordwrapped any of them into 2 or more lines, that could be an issue as well.
