   In mydomain.com i have wordpress in mydomain.com/blog/

   For the whole of mydomain.com I would like to have htaccess password protection so that only a list of predefined users can have access.

   Once they login to htaccess and see the blog homepage, I'd like them to be automatically logged into wordpress so they can click add post to go into the admin area.

   Is this possible?

   No it isnt.

   The authentication that Apache uses cannot be "integrated" into WP, or vice-versa. Not without a whoooooooooooole lotta work, and its only been suggested that its even possible.
