.htaccess issue (maybe) still no solution available!

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been using WordPress for a while now and hit a problem on my last project, but ignored it. Now it is more of an issue on my next blog.

I’m hosting my site with http://www.stratohosting.co.uk, which had an amazing deal. Over time I’ve expanded my site into lots of mini sites. I tried to use pretty permalinks, but ended up crashing my site. So I gave up.

Now I’m using one hosting account to host 4 sites. The current problem is that I want the site to show up under http://www.hiddendlrp.com, but it is actually hosted under http://www.disney-links.com/hidden. The …dlrp.com is redirected to /hidden, no problem there. When I set the wordpress url and blog url to hiddendlrp.com the site dissapears, but i can still access it by typing in disney-links.com/hidden/etc.

In the instructions it mentions a .hta file, but I can’t see on. the ftp client I use is WS_FTP. Could this be the servers I’m using? Someone mentioned different ftp clients may help (but which ones?), there has also been a comment of a tmp folder (what is this and why?).

From my searching through this forum this time and llast time I can;t seem to find a conclusion.

All help greatly appreciated.

I have the similar problem.
First of all, I installed WordPress under http://borisovoataman.ru/thepretender . After changing some settings and adding some content I decided to create dynamic DNS record at dyndns.com (http://thepretender.blogsite.org), so it just redirects to the first address. Everything was fine until I changed WordPress address (URL) and Blog address (URL) to point at http://thepretender.blogsite.org . Now when I get to http://borisovoataman.ru/thepretender (either by typing the adress manually or by dydns redirect) it redirects me to http://thepretender.blogsite.org/thepretender, then it redirects me back to the first address so I end up with error 404 at http://borisovoataman.ru/thepretender/thepretender. I can still reach admin CP by adding /wp-admin/ to any of the addresses above.

Looking for some help with this issue 🙂

After some digging I found this plugin:
http://txfx.net/files/wordpress/disable-canonical-redirects.phps
which completely solved my problem. Maybe it will help you too 🙂

Thanks Pretender,

I doubted it at first, but it actually did work.
It solves the main problem of being able to hide the site in a directory.

The only thing I’ll add is that you upload the file to your plugin folder and activate it. I didn’t spot any instructions and I was expecting to do alot more to get it to work.
