• searching i’ve found bits of info, but not the entire picture so I can understand it. I’m a wp newbie…

    1. Where does the .htaccess file go? root or the wp_admin directory?

    2. what should be in it to make the site secure?

    thanks for any insight.

  • WordPress uses the .htaccess file for pretty permalinks. I have an .htaccess in my root (rewrite rules, spambot blocking, hotlink protection) and another .htaccess (pretty permalinks) in my WordPress directory. A Google search for .htaccess should find you instructions for using an .htaccess for non-WordPress stuff.

been using google, Im getting bits of info and some that makes no sense.

Im not worried what links look like, Im more concerned with securing the blog. So htaccess helps with that so i’ve read, but can get good info how to set it up

If you want to secure your blog, read this:

To be honest I don’t think .htaccess has much to do with security. The link above you really should read if your feeling insecure!!
