I had a version of wordpress working recently with Permalinks on my OS X version of Apache 1.3. I had to change the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file to get it to work, but we got there.
Since this job, I am now developing several sites at once in sub-folders, using the hosts file to point directly to them and creating URLs for each. I've got WordPress up and running fine on one of them, but as soon as I turn on Permalinks and drop the htaccess file into the directory, I get a 500 error across the site.
I've gone into the httpd.conf file and changed the original path for my local host to this new sub-directory where I host the site, but it doesn't make a difference. Would anyone know why adding the htaccess file to my site would break it completely?
I have searched for a while, but can't find anything, so even a few links to read would be a help.
