I have htaccess password protect setup on my wordpress directory, and when I go to http://www.mysite.com/blog it prompts me once for the username and password, then goes to http://www.mysite.com/blog/ and asks me to enter the htaccess username and password again. I have other directories setup for the htaccess passwords and they only prompt me once for the login info. Why is the wordpress directory behaving differently and how do I fix it? I looked at this http://wordpress.org/support/topic/77778?replies=6
old post for help but I changing the general option in wordpress to have www in the url doesn't make a difference and I'm not sure where to change the servername or canonical name in my Cpanel. Are those options only creating a redirect?

I'm not sure if you resolved this issue or not, but I had the same problem. I resolved it though using the correct url. My server was designed to respond to http://weblog/blog/ and I was trying to connect to it using http://www.weblog/blog/. Removing the www corrected the double prompt.
