I'm setting up some redirects in htaccess but having problems redirecting urls with the following format:

    http://www.domainname.com/oldfolder1/oldfolder2/oldfolder3/

    redirecting to:

    http://www.domainname.com/newfolder/

The result keeps redirecting me to:

    http://www.domainname.com/newfolder/oldfolder2/oldfolder3/

I am using the htaccess syntax:

    Redirect 301 /oldfolder1/oldfolder2/oldfolder3/ http://www.domainname.com/newfolder/

I have tried the plugin redirection but get the same result. Could someone point out where I am going wrong?

This is now resolved. I think there was a conflict with a htaccess rule and redirction plugin. Have managed to fix things using redirection.
