• Hi everybody.

Question1: I’d like to run the website – promo web site – just to inform users that “there will be a website, content interesting for you, soon”, collect email addresses from those who are intrested, but till that time I need to work on it – prepare the content. What should I do to hide what I do for all users till the website is ready?

Question2: What’s the best solution for “maintenance mode” for already published websites? Sometimes I need to test some functionalities (new plugin, content, etc) but I do not want users to see what I do.

    Thank you very much!

  • Have you considered using MAMP (if you use a Mac)or WAMP (if you use a PC).
These are free download software programs. What they allow you to do is create a ‘local’ version of a wordpress website. Then when your are done you can upload it to your server – via FTP.
There is a bit of a learning curve in learning how to use it but there are plenty of YouTube clips to help you out and of course google.
Caution: learning MAMP/WAMP will not likely be an overnight process.(depending on your existing level of experience).

No need to move the site to a dev server or localhost and then move it back; you’ll need to reset all URLs and uploads. Use WordPress › Absolute Privacy « WordPress Plugins to make up a maintenance page with a contact form and block all but logged in users while you work on the site.
