    Hi there,

I set up WordPress fine on my server and now I’m trying to set it up on my client’s server. However, I keep getting a 500 Internal Server Error:

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

Where is the error log located?

    Thanks!
    .Tai

  • It would be the apache error log (WordPress doesn’t have one of it’s own). Check with your host for the location.

If running a new install of 2.0.5, you might want to grab and install the Tuneup plugin which may be all you need to fix this issue: http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/wordpress-tuneup/wordpress-205-tuneup/

Thanks for your response — however when trying Tuneup I get hung up on the last step: “Activate it”

    How can I activate it?

Go to Plugins, find it in the list and click the “Activate” link?

[edit] Shame on me, forgot a useful link. If working with plugins is new for you, check out Managing_Plugins.

Well, the problem that I have is that I can’t even get the WordPress blog set up, since I get that error when I run the install.php. I guess this plugin isn’t much use in that case…

    Ah.

That would’ve been good to know up front.

So, we’re back to asking the host where the apache error logs are then.

“Where is the error log located?”

There isn’t a “universal” location. Check with your host provider.
