How to use static homepage displaying posts

Hi guys,

I’m brand new to wordpress and learning bit by bit. I’m building a blog that I want to have the homepage displaying posts (like if I selected Front Page displays- Your latest posts) but when I’ve use that option it comes up with the url for all the pages on my site of: http://www.digitalcopywriting.com.au/sample-page/(whatever the page is)..

In pages if I go to the homepage (was originally the sample page) when I set the permalink it has to be digitalcopywriting.com.au/something.. can anyone please explain how to keep this as the landing page, but have the permalink just as the domain name so that it doesn’t effect child pages urls.

Also when I go the the site in a browser it displays the url correctly without sample-page, and I’m at a bit of a loss why that is as well.
