How to use multisite for domains instead of sub-domains? (4 posts)

Currently I am using the "Enable Multi-Site" plugin for creating new wordpress sites using wildcard sub-domains. It works fine, however, I would like to be able to use domain names instead of sub-domains. So if someone were to create a new blog of their own, they would have to fill out their "domain.com" and after clicking "Create Site" automatically creates their new blog under the domain name they told it to point to without me having to touch anything. My goal is to have this feature be automated.

Is this possible? If so, how do I set this up?

You need to install the domain mapping plugin:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
    http://ottopress.com/2010/wordpress-3-0-multisite-domain-mapping-tutorial/

It does not have the option to include filling out the domain on signup. However, users do have a menu in the Tools area.

I don't think you can do that, unless you can automate the registration of domain names with the name registrars.

Ok, I think I understand now. It doesn't really work for the project I was trying to complete. Thank you for the replies!
