Hello I’m VERY new to WordPress and web design in general-like I just started a week ago. Step by step basic instructions would be very helpful for me. I’m using the Autofocus theme for my videography website, and I have a two part question. The first one is very basic
#1-My website looks like the Autofocus theme except for I cannot figure out where the multiple photo layout lives. I add a photo to my page and it doesn’t follow the pattern of what the example looks like. I think I realized that I have to add the photo into the code in theme editor, but which file? The Main Index (index.php)? And where exactly in the wording of the file do I add this?

#2-I’m a videographer so I actually want to add video to this template instead of a photo. Are there any special instructions on how to do this?

I hope this question made sense. Thanks so much for your help and apologies for my ignorance of this program!!!

Have you tried reading any documentation for the theme?

Yes, I’ve been researching a lot, I really tried to find the answer online, but I think I am missing something. First I’m just trying to nail down how to post photos (before tackling video) so it looks like the layout in the template demo. The documentation says to create a post and use the image uploader and the photo should be placed into the photo area, but this is not working for me. I am just seeing the picture in the middle of the post, and then not at all on my home page. Again, I am very new to this so it could be something very basic that I am missing.

I haven’t used Autofocus myself but the theme documentation does seem to suggest that you should simply upload the photos that you want to use in your post and that the theme will take care of the rest. One important point that the documentation doesn’t stress …

You need to upload the photos using the Add Media button whilst in the Edit Post page and after you’ve saved the post as a draft. Don’t use the Media/Add New menu Admin option to upload your images. It’s all to do with the way in which WP creates an association (called “an attachment”) between posts and specific images. The same criteria applies to any uploaded media (including videos).

If you want to read the gory details, it’s explained on this page.

Thank you esmi for your help, I am using the Add Media button, but thanks for the tip. I am now wondering if somehow I downloaded this theme incorrectly, because I really don’t know what the problem is. Here is how I downloaded my theme:
    On Dashboard
    Appearance-Add New Themes
    Searched for AutoFocus
    Clicked Install

Is there something that I’m not doing right in this process?
    Thanks for all your help

Okay! Headway finally! I can now see my photos on my home page. My problem was in my Reading Settings for my front page displays I had a static page selected. I switched it to my latest posts, and then added each photo as a post. Now they are displayed as the theme showed.
Going to mess some more, but would still like to replace these photos with video. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.
