I am having a terrible time trying to get my permalinks to work after having moved my wp files to my root directory in Yahoo webhosting. I am missing the .htaccess file which I think is what is causing the problem. Yahoo hosting won't let me upload the .htacces. I have loaded it with the name 1.htaccess and then tried renaming it, but the file manager won't let me do that either. I have also tried putting it on there with Filezilla, still the same problem. Has anyone else run into this?

Reason one: Your provider might not allow .htaccess

Reason two: Your FTP might not display/process hidden files.

Also: .htaccess files must be uploaded as ASCII mode, not BINARY.
You also might need to CHMOD the .htaccess file to: 644

My Ftp client has a feature where I just right click the file an select the chmod number from a drop down.

Manually you would have to run that as a server command line in your phpAdmin I think.

    See: .htaccess (Hypertext Access)
