How to track inventory for contact lenses? (4 posts)

    Hi there,

So we are about to port over to Woocommerce, and we have run into an issue of how to track our contact lenses, which are offered in prescription in 0.25 increments from 0.00 all the way up to 7.00. So 0.00, to 0.25, to 0.50, etc etc.

Everything is fine if we only sold these as single products, but customers need to purchase per PAIR, so on each product page, we need to let them choose their prescription for Left AND Right eye.

However, regardless of what they choose for either Left or Right, the product itself is physically the same, and whatever prescription needs to be the same SKU. So basically it needs to draw the prescription from the same source, but show it as separate options.

For example, if a customer chooses 0.25 prescription for their left eye, and 0.25 prescription for their right eye, then the order needs to contain two of the exact same SKU. If they choose different prescriptions, then it will be different SKUs. But the point is there is only one set of SKUs for each variation in prescription per style of lens.

We have 19 styles of lenses in total.

    Please see http://www.angelcontacts.com/product/angel-blue-circle-lenses/
for an example of our existing product page.

We are currently not tracking the prescription variations as inventory or SKUs, but would like to do so once we switch to Woocommerce, and be able to export our orders with the SKUs included as well for Fulfillment purposes.

    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Hi @Limboistik, I am facing same challenge. I am sell lenses in WooCommerce store. Would like to know what worked out best for you sofar?

I saw a few days ago, your site was using product bundles. Did you try grouped product or variations?
