   Hello in the next few days I will be installing WordPress 2.3. For my site upgrading to 2.3 is not an option, so I have to delete my wordpress 2.2 site and then install a fresh wordpress 2.3, then import my old sql database. In the meantime what is the correct way to have my site temporarily unavailable for all visitors?

   This is a basic question i know...but I tried searches and couldn't pull up any answers. Thanks!

   My suggestion is to put a static index.html page in the root directory saying your site is offline. Most webservers will read .html before they will read a .php file
