    Hi,

So my client wants a site where he displays information about countries.

So say there are sub categories for each country.. e.g. accommodation, food, overview.

So the idea you can navigate down to “food” for Italy… by going Europe->Italy->Food (via a menu say).

Both Italy and Food will have content on it. Do I make these two pages or posts? Say there are 55 countries.. then there will be 55 pages for Food. What if I want to rename the category Food to, say, Eating later on? Do I need to do that for 55 pages?

Just working out the best way to structure this site. Thanks.

    You’re talking about taxonomy.

I’d recommend reading up about creating custom menus. You can include pages, posts, categories, or custom URLs in your custom menus once you’ve decided on a particular taxonomy.

    Thanks Jason.

So I’ve created a category called “country” and created country posts and assigned them that category. Works so far.. by going to domain.com/country display all countries.

Now let’s say on the “New Zealand” post I want a link to “Food”. Would I make that a post? And assign a category? I created a “NZ” category with the parent being country.. created a Food post and assigned the “NZ” category to it.

Going back to domain.com/country displays the Food post now.. which is not the intention.

Also going to domain.com/country/NZ does not list the Food post. But displays a 404 error. I have to go to domain.com/country/NZ/food

I’m stuck at this point how best to use parent relationships, categories or tags for future subpages. ?

    thanks.

So NZ is a category. Then when you create your FOOD post, you should have NZ checked off as one of the categories (or the only category).

The reason you’re getting a 404 error is that in the post you’re going to, you haven’t included NZ in the categories. Make sure you check off NZ, and then it will show up in that menu category.
