• How do I set up a second WP blog on my web site?

Do I need to download the WP again and put it in another folder?

I’ve downloaded a second theme and put it in public_html/blog2 folder

Is there a way to use the original WP download with a second blog or what must be done? Appreciate your telling how to do this or how to find a place with directions; I’ve searched quite a lot for directions already with no luck

    Thanks

  • The way I would do it would be to, assuming your first blog is in your public_html/site1 folder, is to extract the contents of the wordpress download into public_html/site2 and run through the configuration wizard again. Note that if you have access to only 1 mysql database to change the db-prefix to say blog2.

You only need to download WP again if the version you’ve got in your downloads folder is relatively old (if it’s a 2.7 version, I wouldn’t worry too much as the updater can be run from within).

    See the following video.

Tnx for the tips … someone suggested using Fantastico thru control panel… it was fast, easy, and allowed me to name the new folder, e.g. blog2 … Seems like this kind of info shud be part of the “installation” instructions, e.g. To Set Up a Second Blog, do this…
Anyway, i appreciate the tips. I’l lok at the educhalk blog

Fantastico, although easy, is not the ideal way to install a blog and I wouldn’t suggest that be included in the instructions here…several potential pitfalls that I don’t have time or inclination to type out here.

But if it works for you and you’re happy with it, then that’s what counts. Glad you got it working.
