How to show the latest posts on homepage with custom css

Hello, im making a new theme for a site and i wanted to ask how to “echo” the latest 6 posts of my blog on my homepage with custom css?
I want to divide the news to two columns (3 and 3 on each column) and i wanna show only the featured image of the post and the title.
I tried to search on google and the codex but i couldn’t find a way to divide it to two columns. So i would like the instructions to do so.
