IntelliWidget Per Page Featured Posts and Menus
[resolved] How to show sub-categories in parent category page (6 posts)

Exploiting the idea of 'one widget for many' I'm trying to use IntelliWidget to show sub-categories of a parent category. (Only visible if parent has sub-cats) Currently I'm using LSC plugin that works, except The problem with LSC is that it ONLY shows in the category page, ie; disapears on posts of the category. That means we lose the widget on post pages. I would like to re-use IW if possible, as it's more f;exible. Of course the problem is it seems there are only settings for widgets/pages/posts but not actual category pages.

Have I missed something? can we do this? Or is it a possible future feature?

    Thanks.

Taxonomies are currently the weak link with IntelliWidget. You can filter posts by a single category (or multiple categories if you use the shortcode). You can also create post-specific widgets, but not taxonomy page-specific or other archive-specific widgets. (The site-wide intelliwidgets do work as advertised on these pages, however.)

A future release will completely overhaul the way IW handles taxonomies, but that is a lower priority than other features right now.

If you have something specific in mind, we could discuss developing a customized version ...

Yep, it was the category specific widget I wanted. So if I wanted a parent category to show its siblings in a widget, can the site-wide widget do that.. and how do I configure that?

Thanks for your very quick response above. Much appreciated. :)

Unfotunately IW does not query taxonomies at all. It only uses them to filter posts. I have put this on our list of enhancements (real requests take priority over what we think would be neat).

    Check back soon for updates!

    Hey Strauss,

We just released the IntelliWidget Archive and Taxonomy Extension that extends IntelliWidget to do what (I think) you were looking for.

Send me an email to solutions@lilaeamedia.com if you are interested in a review copy.

    Cheers!
