• Hello. Thanks for the great plugin! One question…

When I as the webmaster receive an email from the contact form, the “from” field of the email is set as so:

    The Website Name <theuseremail@somewhere.com>

This makes my inbox very confusing to look at because when I glance at all my emails I see my own website name over and over instead of the user’s name. How do I make the “from” part of the email say this instead:

    Firstname Lastname <theuseremail@somewhere.com>

    Thanks!

  • theusername <theuseremail@somewhere.com> is the default way.
Did you disable the name field on your form?

Thanks for the reply! I don’t recall disabling that field. But I have “Anyone can register” turned off, could that be the problem? Most visitors to my site don’t have accounts and therefore don’t have usernames.

“Anyone can register” has nothing to do with this form

If you send me a link to your form I can better help you instead of having to keep asking you questions

I don’t recall disabling the name field or any of the fields. I pretty much just kept the default settings except for adjusting the “subject” field a bit.

    Here’s the form:

    Thanks for the help!

OK i looked at your form
the email should come in as
    name <email@somewhere.com>
where name and email are what the user has entered in the form

Unless you checked this setting on the basic settings page:
“Enable ONLY when web host requires “Mail From” strictly tied to site”
then the web site name / email would be used

I don’t have that box checked. Thank you anyway for the responses. Maybe I’ll try to debug it by looking at the PHP code. There must be something strange about my setup.

Your web host might have forced that, or you have a mail plugin that modifies it.
