[resolved] How to restrict posts to specific users? (3 posts)

    Hi there,

I'm wondering, is there a plugin/method in which I could restrict posts to specific users based on their name, instead of the user level?

The reason I'd like to do this, as an example, is so say my brother who is an Administrator user level can't read stuff that I want only myself and my girlfriend to be able to read. So restricting based on user level is a good start, but not entirely what I'm after.

    Can anyone help please? :S

    Cheers,
    Tom

Ohhhhh this is a nice plugin!!

    http://redalt.com/wiki/Role+Manager

I think if I use this plugin, create a new capability, and create a new role based on Subscriber + this new capability, then change my girlfriend (or whoever) to this new role, then post a post and by using this plugin:

I can post with a restriction such that only my girlfriend who has this specific role can view the post!!

    voila!! :-D

I'll test it over the next few days and report progress.

You can also add in the limit categories plugin (which works well with the role manager plugin) to specifically control the categories are role may post to. Create a custom role, and then assign which categories it can post to.

And for reading, you can get the Category Access plugin, which lets you control on a user basis which categories someone can read.

Those three plugins should cover most scenarios you would want.
