I was editing my functions.php to add widgeted footer following the instructions given by the theme creator. I was just in step 1 http://www.studiopress.com/tips/how-to-add-a-widgeted-footer-area-to-your-studiopress-theme.htm and trying to save functions.php but the page became unresponsive.

I closed the browser, only to find that the site has disappeared. I couldn’t access the login page

I uplosded the backups I did, but still 500 server error. I called up my webhost and they first said that I was trying to run PHP when my server wasn’t configured with PHP — which was weird because my site has been running using WP since last year and it has PHP

Aside from waiting for my webhost to figure it out, any suggestions on what I can do to bring up the site? It was working fine a while ago, and I just uploaded a new post.

    My site is http://www.womenhomebusiness.com

Thank you for all your help

So you’ve tried re-uploading the stock functions.php that came with your theme?

Yes that was the first thing I re uploaded and it did not work.

I then reuploaded all the other WP files, and nothing

Ok, Good. I would wait on your host to get php running. If it’s not working right, you’re not getting anywhere. Which host are you with?
