How to Require Login for Parts of Site (1 post)

I apologize if this is a repost, but I can't seem to find the answer for my question.

I have a very rudimentary website which includes chat and forums

    http://www.americanpatriotleague.com

The site was originally set up to require registration which allowed for use of the chat room and forums without additional login. I removed the registration, changed the requirement to log in to use the forums, but can't get the chat room to work the same way. If I set the requirement for use of the chat room to those who are logged in, a message is displayed to that effect, but there is no login process.

Without a login all chat room users are logged in as guests. If you have a user login (from when the site was locked down) you cannot use that username in chat.

The question: how do I set the site up to require registration for both chat and forums, but nothing else?

    Thanks for any help.
