Hi, I seem to be having great difficulty getting an answer for, what seems to me a straightforward question.

When writing a page or a post about anything you end up with an ugly url, like http://www.mydomain.com/index.php/2011/jume/blah blah blah! when it should be just http://www.domain name / page title. html

WordPress seem to think it's ugly too because they offer three other opportunities to make it even uglier! There must be! Has to be! a box that you simply tick on wordpress to make your url look like every other url on the web!

I've seen some answers on the web where you would need a degree of some kind to change it or the most common one which is %post% in the custom box which doesn't work.

Any one got a simple straightforward solution in english to this?

  2. Please read http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

In WordPress terms 'ugly' permalinks refers to 'domain.com/?p=123'

'Pretty' Permalinks are domain.com/2011/postname/ but you can Choose Your Structure as you want. If you want .html (which is not needed) you can add it on.

If you can only make the prettier ones work with index.php, that's usually indicative of PATHINFO being set - See ALMOST Pretty
