• Although this is a personal opinion, I can’t stand having software tell me what to do. The worst offender was Vista’s UAC (User Account Control) which i disabled 10 minutes after the installation. A lesser annoyance is WP’s upgrade your plugin notification.

Premise: why the hell upgrade a flash embed or highslide plugin if they are working perfectly? why the hell use a plugin to disable a plugin?

Solution: rather than edit the wordpress files…which means rehacking with each WP upgrade, you edit the plugin.

Depending on the plugin, it’s as easy as changing the version number to a higher one..for example if the version is 1.8 change it to 9.8 or in some cases find the reference to siteurl and remove it. make sure the context is the right one. Either way, keep a backup copy of the plugin in case you edit out the wrong line.
