[resolved] [closed] How to reduce 'Time To First Byte' on my wordpress site? (16 posts)

    Hello all,

My website has a very slow time to first byte of around 8.5s.

I really need to reduce this and have done everything that my limited understanding will allow.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Thanks for your help.

Indeed it was a plugin that was causing the problem. But I wasn't expecting it to be the w3tc plugin!

Am I using this plugin incorrectly? Should I uninstall this plugin and setup a different caching plugin?

My page gets much lower scores on yslow and google site analyser without the plugin as active, but the site is so much faster.

Any advice you could offer Esmi is so much appreciated!

same issue here, deleted W3TC and activated wp supercache no more ttfb problems and loadtime reduced to 320 ms

    Have a look at this:

    http://blog.cloudflare.com/ttfb-time-to-first-byte-considered-meaningles

and now compare your site performance with various tools
good page speed insight, gtmetrix, site analysers (all free).

you might find your TTFB is fast but overall page load is slower.

A google search for TTFB in wordpress returns a result showing that cleaning up the database improved their TTFB. deleting revisions was their difference.

    cheers

@luke_conker @kletskater @Farzanmc - if that's your experience, then quite simply page caching either isn't on or isn't working which was a bug in some hosting environments in past releases. Reach out and I'll help.

    Sorry for the trouble.

Hello Frederick i am still using Version: 0.9.2.5, have as yet not been afraid to upgrade because all error messages here on the forum.
How safe is it to upgrade, knowing you spend such long time between eich upgrade?

    FYI.

I finally was able to get my TTFB Time to first Byte from an F to an A.

I unchecked "Optimize disk enhanced page and minify disk caching for NFS " under Miscellaneous on the general tab of W3TC.

@kletskater, you can always backup your site and test or test in a staging area or sandbox.

@portermonkey, could you submit a bug submission form from the support tab of the plugin so I can see your settings? That's a curious thing you've found.
