Dear all,
We just launched a new music website, http://www.calcatelli.com powered by WordPress.
The previous site has been around for some time & was indexed decently by google. I wasn't able to keep the same link structure (fortunately!) as the previous site urls were complex and user UNfriendly!
At this stage I find the following situation/dilemma:
1) The previous site (with old unfriendly links) is no longer active
2) The new WP (with user-friendly links) is active
3) Google still picks up several old links... structured in the old way. For example:
http://www.calcatelli.com/ita/index.php?page=discography
Since the old site isn't active I don't think I can activate any special re-directs to the new WP site.
The old links then revert to the homepage or (more frequently) to a 404 page.
- Is there a way I can tell Google that this page (in the example above) has been permanently moved to: http://www.calcatelli.com/music
(If yes - how? If no, will I just need the pages to be re-indexed?)
- I switched off my old site about two weeks ago. I noticed today that I've actually disappeared from search engine results for those keywords I was previously ranking first or second page for. What is more is if i type my own name, my site URL shows up with the word "ENGLISH" as a description. Should I be worried, or just allow Google to do its thing?
Thanks in advance for any support!
