Okay, so I've been reading this
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ It says I can display posts on different category pages. I made the menu. When I make a new post I see categories, but i don't see the menu I made that was supposed to split it into category pages. (Do these category pages show up in the top next to "Home"?--that's a side question not my main question)

When I put in the category, it's just a category, but not a category page.
So my question is, what is the step to put a post into a different category page? I'm using box of boom theme.
    Thanks.
And I was able to make the menu as the instructions said.

Is this a wordpress.com site or a self-hosted WordPress install?

Then it might be better if you referred to http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page rather than wordpress.com documentation. As is it, that article is referencing custom navigation menus which have nothing directly to do with categories. Have you reviewed custom menus?

Yes, I've read through how to post and custom menus. When I go to Post a blog, all I see are Publish, Format, Categories (but not the one I put on a menu), tags, and featured image. How do I put my post under the category page of the menu I made?

I know there's a way to do it, but when I read what people write, I don't understand the "put it into index.php. and then create category.php" and all of that

but not the one I put on a menu

Sorry? You can't just add an ad-hoc custom menu item and expect WP to turn it into a category. Perhaps you need to review how to use and manage categories?

I am not sure where the problem is but that should be easy to fix.
you say that when you write a new post, you do not see the category that you created and added to the menu? that's a problem.
This theme only supports 1 menu so that should be easy to check.

    1) go to your post, in the category section select your category, if you don't see your category then it means that this category does not exist. go to posts/categories and check if it's there (if it's not, add the category), then go back to your post and select the category
    2) go to appearances/menu, in the Theme location, you should have your menu selected as the primary menu (this is to make sure that you display your custom menu and not the default one)

3)still in appearances/menu, go down to the bottom of the page where it says categories, do you see your category? if it's there click "add to menu" and then click on "save menu", now you have added your category as a page to your menu

refresh your page and you should see your category in the menu, when you click on it it will display the posts that are linked to this category.

let me know what you find and I'll guide you some more if needed.

NATHALIE!!!!!!! You're so awesome!!!!!!! Exactly what I was looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm very excited!) Okay, another question though and this one is probably easier --- how do I arrange the category pages up top so that it's in the order I want it, say:
Home News Lesson (I know how to do this if they're pages, but not category pages)

Also, with a category page, is it still possible to write something that will stay constant on the page, as in:

    Title
This is me talking about bla bla that will stay constant.

This is the latest blog post.

    Thanks!

    I am glad I can help :)
If you are talking about how to arrange the categories in the menu, you need to go to appearances/menus, then on the right panel you will see the different menus items that you have one below the other, you can just drag and drop them to put them in the order you want then click save menu and you're done.
as for the text in the category "page", this is your lucky day : this theme happens to display the category description, if you go to posts/categories then edit your category and add some text in the description field, then it will show up in the category page right before the posts linked to that category :)

Perfect! You know, I think what you just said above is not something a lot of people know, because I was searching for the problem and all the answers stated they were going to show up alphabetically. Not so! You're too good! Thank you so much!!!!!!!! You saved me from pulling my hair out. :)
