   I want to put my own banner into the theme, at the mo it's the default banner, how do I do it?

   Read the instructions in the hedaer.php file.

   I believe moshu meant header.php.

   Some theme contains no readme file with instruction to change header though, so here's a little trick.

   Find a jpg/png/gif file inside that particular theme's folder that looked just like the theme's header. Now, make sure your own banner has the same dimension (height and width) with that header image, otherwise you risk screwing up the theme display. Make sure the file type matches too.

   Name your banner with the theme's header name, and upload it, overwriting the theme's header file.

   Ta-da, instant banner replacement.

   If somehow something breaks, just re-upload the original theme's file.
