    Hello Forum Contributors -

    Team of us are going to use WordPress as CMS to create and maintain various sections of one website. Site is hosted on GoDaddy, WordPress 2.9.1 is installed and working.

    Trying to figure out how to use WP to post/edit specific pages in specific folders on the server. We're just getting started.

    All help appreciated,

    I'm probably misunderstanding you, but just in case you didn't know, WordPress does not create actual files for it's posts or pages. It dynamically generated them from multiple files and database data.

    You can have posts in multiple categories, not sure if that's what you meant. That way, you could have yoursite.com/category/postname. Go to your Settings >> Permalinks area and set the custom structure to /%category%/%postname%.

    Micah, thanks for your reply. You do understand my question perfectly. Based on multiple categories, is the following possible:

    Website structure:
    Root
    Root/group1
    Root/group2
    etc.

    Using WordPress, Permalinks, and custom structure settings, can one person contribute/manage content in group1, another in group2, etc?

    Thanks again, I will test in Settings >> Permalinks.

    Not really.

    You are better off finding a plugin such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/capa/ to help with that.

    generic:
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/restriction
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/restrict
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/members
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/membership
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/register
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/registration

    Thank you Michael, I read about CaPa, but that still doesn't appear to do what we're looking for. Are there any other plugins you can suggest? Any other programs? Some of the folks in our team can program and use HTML, scripts and so forth, but some cannot. Each person is supposed to have a way to post content to their section without turning to other team members.

    Appreciate your help and your time.

    Then use categories and let users post into those specific categories. No programming, html, or php skills needed for that!

    Okay Michael, if I use categories and let users post into them, can I designate the individual folders on the web server where that content will reside? The overall website will not all be a blog, there are literally hundreds of web pages as well. We need to manage content by type and by location.

    Thanks for your help, sorry I don't know more about WordPress.

    I think you should install WordPress and try creating a couple of categories, posts, and pages and get a feel for how they can be manipulated.
