• Hi
So we are leaving our remote host $$ and want to run our existing web site off our imac. The imac is more then capable fyi

Here is what we did so fare:

1 full back up image from cpanel on remote host.
2 Filezilla down the zip file that is a “full back up”
3 placed it in Library/WebServer/Documents and unpacked it.Turned on “web share” / made sure php was turned on.
4 redirected my DNS set for the domain to our IP. and waited till it was ready.
Im using OS 10.7.5 MAC FYI and I get nothing but a page

    “Index of /
[ICO] Name Last modified Size Description
    Apache/2.2.26 (Unix) DAV/2 Server at atlantics-imac.home Port 80″

and if you type in the domain to the address bar via browser; it try to access the router.

what did I do wrong? and is it possible to just run the site via “MAMP” so the public can access it?

yes it was a full cpan back up we are unpacking

Did that include a database backup file?

    Thread Starter Scott@adszoom

    (@scottadszoom)

yes full back up included all connections and data base; it was unpacked from the zip at the same time as well

And did you then import that database backup into your local database after changing all of the urls?

we did not change any url? we unzipped the file like it was in our home directory at Hg …

Then – as I originally suggested – please review Moving_WordPress.

ok this part of the article you sent me” thanks by the way ”

    ” ( i copied this and pasted here )
if you are changing to a new server but same domain, all you need to do is edit wp-config.php with your new database/user information and upload everything as it is to your new server.

if i unzip my cpan full back up that includes ALL data base and config files; can i just leave them alone or do i have to change anything if we kept the urls and data connections the same? can I just leave them in the places they unzip to?

You still have to import the database backup into an empty database! You are moving the site to another server.

hmm ya but the cpan back up included the “populated backup” still connected or am i crazy? This is what they said at Host G…

“populated backup” SORRY populated data bases.. not “back up

You have to import the populated database backup into a new database. Databases themselves cannot be “backed up” or zipped up.

ah so I have to create a new data base then import the unzipped one? where would I create that data base ; in what directory…

    Yes

where would I create that data base ; in what directory…

Databases do not reside in directories but within your MySQL server. You will need to create the db with Phpmyadmin or another db management tool.
