How to move from locally hosted WP through MAMP to remote server? (6 posts)

    Hi All,

I've developed and readied a wordpress site locally on my mac, and am now ready to upload to a remote hosted server.

I uploaded the files via FTP, but things aren't working just yet. I'm assuming I need to create a database first and foremost. Then export from my local account and import on the remote one.

Is that all that needs to be done? I want to make sure that everything I have locally is transferred over exactly as is...

    Thanks in advance!

Yes - then amend wp-config.php to use your new db settings. After that you can run wp-admin/install.php, login and do the general config stuff.

Then export from my local account and import on the remote one.

What do you need to import?

All of my posts that I have on my local drive. Will everything automatically be there, simply by transferring files?

No. Your best approach might to to export your local content (Tools/Export) into an xml file and then import that file into your remote install (Tools/Import).

Ah gotcha. Well i'm stuck with an error that says "sorry can't write to directory" so i'm on hold with my effing hosting company.

Any idea how to change the permissions to the root directory of your hosted account?
