How to move blog off the home page? (15 posts)

I'm brand new at WordPress and have a blog-in-development on a WPMU 2.7 installation. I'd like to move the blog and its comments from the Home page to a page called "Blog" which I've created. I've searched but haven't found a way to do this. Is there a way?

    Admin / Settings / Reading

set a static home page, create a page called Blog, and make Blog your posts page

this is the same in WPMU as in regular WP

OK, I created a new page called "Home" and assigned that as a static page for the Home page. Now the Home page indeed is that page, but I also have a text "Home" menu item in its alphabetical place in the menu. Can I get rid of the text "Home" menu item?

Also, if I had lots of comments in the blog that was on the previous Home page, how would I move that whole set of comments to the Blog page?

Oops, after I did what I described above, the content of the About page changed to the content that was previously on the Home page (the original blog), and the original About page content seems to be gone. What happened?

yes - edit header.php and remove the LI that displays the Home link.

The comments should automatically appear - it is the exact same posts page, just displayed in a different place.

Go back to Admin / Settings / Reading and make sure you did not accidently select About instead of Blog as your posts page

Thanks so much from this newbie!

    >edit header.php and remove the LI that displays the Home link<

Where/how would I find that page?

    >The comments should automatically appear<
    >Go back to Admin / Settings / Reading and make sure you did not accidentally select About instead of Blog as your posts page<

Bingo! Everything is in its proper place.

    /wp-content/themes/{themename}/header.php

    >/wp-content/themes/{themename}/header.php<

Currently I'm running on a WPMU installation (not mine). Wouldn't I need my own WP installation to get access to that (and other stuff)?

Oh yes, I forgot about the WPMU part. Contact the admin of the WPMU site and ask them how you get that link off your nav.

I'm still considering whether it would be better for me to get my own WordPress account on a good host instead of using the free WPMU installation. I have developer tendencies, at least enough to want to be able to do what I want when I want instead of asking the admin to do things that I "should" be able to do. For another example, I don't like that the "template author" link at the bottom of my pages doesn't open a new window, but instead takes the user away from my site (and to a Japanese language page :-). I assume that's a simple fix if I had access to "my" files but I don't know if it's fixable with MU (it's a template they provide with the installation). Would you like to offer an opinion re the benefits (or not) of getting my own WP installation?

Really you have already answered that question yourself. Its what you WANT to do, and, its a step up from where you are now - unknown...

    I say, go for it.

I am having a problem and can't figure out how to resolve it. I have a website and am primarily using pages rather than a blog per se. I followed the instructions on creating a static front page, and am using the page titles (and sub pages) for my navigation menu. The instructions I followed were here.

I am using version 2.84 of WordPress.

I created a Home page and a Blog page per the instructions. I then went to the Reading settings, and set "Front Page" to Home, and "Posts" page to Blog.

I then created a post, which shows up on the Blog page. The problem is, if I go to click the link to add a comment, it sends the user to the home page. I have the Blog page set to allow comments, but don't want the comments to show up on the home page. I've looked over lots of posts but don't see this particular problem. Can someone help me to know how to make the comments to a post show up on my Blog page under each post? My website is Appheritage.com

I am still looking for an answer to this if anyone knows. I didn't mention in my previous post that I am using the iNove theme. I have seen some people say that it is how the theme was written, but I've switched to several other themes, made the comments "sticky" to page by changing the "Stick this post to the front page" to be checked, and it continues to go back to the front page when the comments link is clicked, regardless of the template.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with this. I could make my "blog" a page which allows comments, but I don't want to have a gazillion pages for each subject, I'd rather that page actually be a blog.

    Thanks,
    Craig
