How to move a muti-site to another hosting company (3 posts)

I am moving an add-on site(multisite wp 3.2.1) in a shared account to another hosting company, but a managed VPS with c-panel. Since it was an add-on site, I setup a new usename in the new server account. So the new database name is different from the old one.

I was told by the hosting tech support to download the core files and database, then uploaded to the new server c-panel, but the site shows nothing in the internet. Then I checked wordpress documentaion, I found the following link http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Multisite

    I have questions:
Why should I change WordPress address (URI) and Blog address (URI), I think since it is same website address, the url should stay same.

My site also uses permalink. I am very confused now. Should I change my site registration back to my old hosting company, then do everything as indicated in that link. Also the above link doesn't give a clear step needed to do for multisite, so I am still afraid I will do something wrong.

The another thing is suPHP. The tech asked me if I wanted to enable suPHP. The tech said: since the php on my sever is running as DSO, the plugin installations will be under the apache user and I have to manually correct the permissions each time I am installing plugins. So I asked them to enable the suPHP. But then I read through internet and saw when suPHP was enabled, some of the cache function wouldn't be able to function. Now I am wondered whether I should disable suPHP.

Good hosting company will be able to migrate all that in no time.. Normally by migrating to other hosting provider, the thing that need to be changed would be the nameserver and that's about it.. It has nothing to do with the url or anything

You don't, but those directions are for moving to a NEW domain :) If you're not changing the domain, skip that.

That's correct. That was all you needed to do (except you probably need to edit the wp-config.php to point to the NEW database name).

If nothing's showing, that is if it's a big white screen, then you have a PHP issue. It's possible that suPHP is to blame. Check your error logs.
