How to moderate posts?

I know there’s a setting to moderate the comments made to posts, but I’d like to moderate the posts themselves before they’re viewable. I’m using the site as a serious discussion area for educators, and it’s open to anyone with a verifiable/legitimate email address. I don’t want the discussion members subjected to unwelcome spam/sales pitches or worse. Can’t find anything in the WP documentation. Any ideas?
