I have a WordPress blog running under verion 2.0, and I’d like to migrate it to version 2.5.1 on another host. Setting up a new install of wordpress is easy enough, but how do I get my posts from the old 2.0 host moved over?

    Thanks in advance…

Just so I’m clear, I’m not doing an upgrade of WordPress in place. I can set up a brand new 2.5.1 install and just want to move the post and comment data over. I’d rather not have to move the whole wordpress installation over and try to upgrade it if I can avoid it.

    you upgrade and move

    or you move and upgrade.

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.

you cant plug a mysql export of the 2.0 database into a new 2.5.x install…

Here is another page you may find helpful for how to get your posts moved over.

You may be better off upgrading the 2.0 on your existing host to 2.5.1 before you migrate the posts, because there are some database changes between 2.0 and 2.5.1. That way you are moving apples to apples.

Check out the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin for the easiest way to do that version upgrade.

    Wow! That was fast. 🙂

Thanks so much for the links and the idea of upgrading and then moving. I’ve upgraded, and am working on the move now.
