How to make theme files writable (3 posts)

I'm trying to edit a theme file, but there's a message at the bottom of the screen that says:

You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.

So there's no "save" button enabled to let me edit the file.

I've used the FTP function to make everything in my public_html directory 775 but I'm still not able to get rid of the above message and can't edit the files using WordPress's own functionality.

I am also having problems getting images to upload. I've resorted to FTP'ing them to the directory and using HTML to insert them in the posts or pages, but that doesn't update the Media Library so I can't use the "Insert" function to add the images to other pages or posts.

Any ideas on what is going wrong here?

    THANKS!!!!

    Hi,

Assign 766 recursive permissions to wp-content directory from SSH. If you do not have an access of SSH then contact your hosting service provider to grant the permissions.

    Thanks,

    Shane G.
