How to make sidebar wider? (7 posts)

    Hey everyone,

    I'm using the Twenty Ten template and I was just wondering how to make the sidebar a little bit wider (to about 300 px). I've tried to play around with the style.css code but when I adjusted the width size, the sidebar did get wider but it just got cut off on the right side of the screen.

    Here's the code I tried to play around with:

    /* Main sidebars */
    #main .widget-area ul {
    margin-left: 0;
    padding: 0 20px 0 0;

    }
    #main .widget-area ul ul {
    border: none;
    margin-left: 1.3em;
    padding: 0;
    }
    #primary {
    }
    #secondary {
    }

    Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks a lot.

    Adjust the negative margin of the #container to fit your sidebar

    And what should I adjust the negative margin to? This is what I'm looking at:

    #container {
    float: left;
    margin: 0 -240px 0 0;
    width: 100%;

    Container needs the -sidebar width
    Content Needs sidebar width + 60px
    Primary and secondary are the sidebars

    #container {
    	margin: 0 -300px 0 0;
    }
    #content {
    	margin: 0 360px 0 20px;
    }
    #primary,
    #secondary {
    	width: 300px;
    }

    HTH

    No Problem,
    I can see why you wanted the 300px, looks good.

    Can you update the status to resolved.
